Well I'm now a little more optimistic

All being well the show will return next tuesday, from what I've heard of NSR's stream the sound quality isn't back to what it should be, the show will finish at 11 from now on building management issues.
What is going on at NSR at the minute gives me the chance to reflect and in hindsight I regret being part of the executive committee that introduced the constant stream. The problem as I see it is the studio is now constantly in use, which means that NSR never gets a chance to get the team in their for one on one training, and the chance to rerecord some of the jingles, let alone tidy it up, and with the building issues it just doesn't work for NSR...to be honest NSR reflects exactally what is happening with student radio in the UK, there is a clear lack of direction. Stations are looking for ways to compete with the likes of Radio 1 and in most cases they do this by replicating Radio 1, and not looking for their own format, I'm aware of the issues you can only do what your presenters want to do, but with a bit of training it might be possible to change the direction. The other key issue is that in the current market place is student radio is financially struggling, their isn't the money about to support student radio through commercials anymore, local businesses that rely on students for business have realised that in most cases listenership is not what we'd all like it to be and that there other, better ways to attract business.
The biggest issue facing student radio is just how insular most management teams make student radio, the amount of bickering among members puts people off listening to the station, sees the genuine talent leave the station, and student radio cannot simply afford to be a club for those record collections, instead it needs to be a far more positive experience, that will help push the stations forwards, but forward thinking student unions are also needed, as well as the type of station management that will push a station in the right direction instead of gettin stuck in the replication of the past.

It's off tonight, next week I'll be back!!!

So the server/compressor are down and out of action, so I hear.
So I'm at home putting together a production file for a proposal of a radio documentary on the subject of Sonic Warfare, entitled Sounds Dangerous! Just added the exclamation mark now, I like it but it might be a little too street and young for the proposed audience, this is all hypothetical it won't be getting made anytime soon, it's just an idea for university, though I'd be interested in making it. In amongst this production file is a Kode9 compilation, which seems a bit weird so I'm currently writing a few hundred words on why I think it would work on the particular network.
But I digress, I haven't bought any new records, I have however bought some MP3's from Bleep, finally got Stalker (where is sign of the dub? disappointed), DMZ001 finally and erm some other stuff that I've forgotten already.
Anyone got any requests for next weeks show, other than that there be one! Also check out Bok Bok on Saturday nights, man his record collection.
Peace
Matt

Compression, huh?

This blog is starting to sound like I have nothing but troubles, yet again I have to state that I had problems during the show...yes the compressor was playing up and affecting the levels of bass going through, while I also got told the building was closing at 11 so I had to cut my show short by an hour. However it was good to blow the cobwebs off, and throw out a selection of some of my favourites tunes from last year, and one or two new ones. If you want some really heavy dubstep go check out the breezeblock dubwars at the usual sources.
