Oh Not Again

Well looks like the technical issues in the studio are my undoing again.

The Need For More

To many who listen to the show it must appear that my entire musical background is in leftfield beats and dance culture, and now more than ever it feels that's where my record collection is heading. It's only when I go to gigs like Squarepusher on Thursday that I remember where it is that I came from, I still find it hard to believe that I started off listening to metal and rock, with a distinct disliking for what I associated with dance music. It's only really the sight of the same people I used to drink with when I was 16 and 17, and listening to Nu-Metal, that remind me of this, but while they still seem to like all those bands still, I find myself unable to stand that music any longer, which leaves me with a feeling that I've become narrow minded in my musical taste, which as Martin BlackDown indicates is not a particularly positive attribute of anyone involved the production and presentation of the medium. Luckily I do have a record collection that reminds me that there is more out there than just beats, this is when I listen to the few rock records I can still stand, and of course for the post rock and any thing else thats within my record collection.
I guess that some of my record collection will never be played on air for my fear that I could drift too far away from the sound I feel I want the show to concentrate upon, though you never know when some Godspeed or Mogwai may be dropped.
Peace

They're back under starters orders

Well correction I am, it's a one man show up here, still no definitive new show name, it's quite simply Matt France on the NSR schedule and my profile is online on the new NSR site sadly the take a wee peek link for the new site has disappeared so you'll have to wait before you can read the propaganda that sprang forth from my keyboard about the show.
So what new music have I managed to obtain, well still no copy of either the Stacs of Stamina or Ghislain Poirier album, hopefully I'll have managed to obtain them by next week. I have however got hold of a copy of Sway's promo cd, which is sounding very tasty, and Richard Devine's Cautella which is not entirely what I was expecting and may take several listens before I'm fully involved in the record at the minute it is washing over me.
So what has happened in the land of Matt France this past week prior to going on air tonight, well I had the pleasure of sitting in on Phill Jupitus' Breakfast Show for 6Music as he broadcasted from the NSR studio with the infamous acoustics. Had a great time, bar having to set my alarm for 5AM that morning. I've also been busy immersing myself in experimental radio, both creating a piece, think I might work on something for the show over the coming month, also checked out a great piece from BBC Radio 3 entitled Sound Mirrors which was created by Hari Kunzru and Coldcut, well worth checking out if you can find it online anywhere.
Bring on 10PM and the show.
Peace.

Sorry, so simple

So low and behold something had to go wrong, this time I have no one else to blame but myself, I'm chock full of cold and well put it this way I keep dozing off and turning into a zombie, if I had spent a day in bed I wouldn't have made this sacrifice, but for tonight it had to happen, apologises to Christian especially.
In the meantime check this damn stuff out, Vex'd on the Mix
Also if you haven't already go get the Ghislain Poirier album...breakupdown!
Peace
Matt

Not Broadcasting in the Traditional sense

Just so you all know I won't be on air/online tonight as the streaming issue is still not sorted in the NSR studio, as soon as there are any positive developments I will let you know.
In the meantime I've been busy absorbing music, and well alot of radio education, for those who aren't aware I'm currently studying for a Masters in Radio (Production and Management) let me tell you it creates a sense of frustration when you're involved in other projects that you now know could be improved vastly, as if I didn't already know, still gotta love NSR for all the airtime they've given me.
On the Music front, the most important front, if you ask me, I've just got hold of the Modeselektor album which is one vast bag of electronic goodness, for one you have the immeadite impact of the bass heavy tracks most of which feature at least one collobarator, then you have the ambient melodic tracks that sound like they've been kidnapped from the warp back catalogue and been brought forward for a new generation to enjoy. I can see this album being used by me quite a bit.
On the bass heavy front my main men Lightbomb and Hadoken are gonna drop the ambience and go on an all out bass heavy attack, along withFirebrand who I haven't had the good fortune to see perform yet. They're promising a party atmosphere...I should be attending, but I won't be manipulating any laser discs on the night, sadly for me.
Also just spotted that my favourite collobrative mid-atlantic project will be releasing a third album next year, along with another pre-emptive assault in the form of a culture vulture mix. If you don't know who I'm going on about it's I-Sound's and Toby 'DJ Scud' Reynolds' Wasteland project.
On that great news I'm off to drink another coffee, contemplate what to do with my sorry ass for the next five hours, and obviously to play some tunes.
P.S I almost forgot go check out Diplo's Fabric Mix album and of course DJ/ Rupture's Low Income Tomorrowland
