A Tease

Just a quick update to say that at least one new project is on the way....more news on the way.
It's now on hold. Spoke too soon!

Zumpi Hype

I've discovered a ride off into the sunset track, wait for this, it's produced by Terror Danjah, and the track is Zumpi Huntah (Check it over at Pinglewood). It's got less of a grime feel and more of a summer G-Funk feel, but hell if it was summer and my bikes wheels weren't buckled I would be riding along to this one (humming not on my iPod for those who think I'm endangering myself and others).

Why have I suddenly mentioned this, I mean come on it's not like it's fresh on the blogs, it's because I've just been trying to squeeze 30 minutes of Forward Motion music together for some kind of promo. If I mixed I would be less hesitant to chuck it out on the world.

Something to make ... more bearable

I was thinking that you might already have discovered these mixes. Then I thought that if like me you've let your rss news feeds to pile up, and you felt the need to mark all as read you may have missed some of these. Plus hell they're all worth checking out, far better than using shuffle on your ipod (Who wants what sounds like brazilian thrash metal, plus where did that come from?!)
So my mixes to direct your browser to are:
An Ikonika mix courtesy of the Lower End Spasm.
Bok Bok and Manara courtesy of Trash Menagrie
Ok I admit this is a very Night Slugs related post, but still L Vis 1990 courtesy of Mad Decent.
Also to remind me how gutted I am that I missed Drop the Lime because I had a fresh war wound after being knocked off my bike, here is his tour mix.

16 Feb 2009

Two mixes from elsewhere for you

Philip Sherburne expresses his love for wonky. And shares what looks an intriguing mix from Jamie Vex'd. Elsewhere curbcrawlers give us a mix from Supra1.
That will make up for the lack of show this week, I hope.

Looking to the future

Just thought I'd take time out to say that the show is no longer on Futurebeat Radio.
I haven't decided what shape the show/blog is going to take in the future, but at this time it seems appropriate to thank those who have continued to support, you know who you are.

11 Feb 2009

A little visual delight

While I sit here online waiting for the pre-recorded show to kick in at 9, I thought I'd share this video with you, it's for Simian Mobile Disco's Synthesise, and is directed by Alex Sushon and Kate Moross, and I have to say I'm digging it. So yeah as I always say check it out! Thanks to Curb Crawlers.

A Mix This Week

So what have we got lined up for this weeks show? Well how about some Green Toes. I'm not sure what Laura was suggesting with this title, but she has delivered a mix entitled Green Toes that is very tasty indeed, for more on Laura O'Shea go check her myspace!
Meanwhile I've decided that a weekly trip into the back catalogue of Richard D. James is a good idea, and well I decided that this point in the show should be called Aphex Apex. I know, I know, I know. Moving on we also have some beats from Zomby, Bird Peterson, Ikonika, Kode 9, Mark Pritchard and many more. So thats Wednesday night 9-11pm, on these snow covered shores.

Tuesday night in Newcastle

I just thought I'd give a heads up for those in Newcastle that this Tuesday you can head down to Hoko 10, and checkout Outgroup, Syphus, and ABSORB vs. Sequel. Sadly I can't make it as some of us have to work.

A New Update

Fear not, for those who have noticed the lack of the show on Futurebeat, we're back, though running a week late. So the tracklist I published last week is for this week, but I need to rewrite it as it disappeared after a few hours. So anyway I'm hoping all will be back to normal next week.
In the meantime as ever I'd appreciate feedback on the show, I like criticism, I know it's strange.

Saving Face

As there appears to be no show this week, I want to wish Happy New Year to the guys at Lower End Spasm, who have just posted this gift to us all, Essentials and Oneman downloads.
Well anyway I need to see what is on tomorrow night, so happy new year and catch you all in 2009.
And if you need more tuneage to prepare you for the nights festivities well Dazed have a treat courtesy of Zomby, which currently has me struggling to remain seated, thank you Zomby.
Oh yeah just been reminded I never put the link up for L-Vis 1990 and Bok Bok's Night Slugs Mix over at Fact, so here you go.
Face Saved.

Moving Forward

I'm currently riding the East Coast mainline home from London. Knowing that when I get in I have to assemble this weeks show. I'm currently listening to L Vis 1990 n Bok Bok in the mix for fact, which you should certainly check out. (I'll link to it when I have a computer in front of me.)
Anyway on to the point of this post, who thinks this site needs a change, a new lick of paint? I'm thinking that things are going to get busy with some refurbishment. I'm not fully certain of what will be done, so if you have any suggestions you know where I'm at.

7 Dec 2008

beats to warm you in the freezer

So it is officially weather to wear scarves, or better still to sit inside and listen to beats, if you can't be bothered getting out on your bike or something.
Anyway here is a tip off this weeks show (Which was meant to be last weeks show, until issues arose) features beats by Mike Slott, L Vis 1990, Rustie, Joker, Bossman, Lewi White, Diplo, and many more. So go ahead and check it out on Tuesday night, 10 pm til Midnight on FuturebeatRadio.
Anyway I'm going to go back to listening to the latest album on Skull Disco, Soundboy's Gravestone gets Desecrated by Vandals, which I have to say is immense and deep, just as you'd expect it. I'm sure next weeks show will include a cut from it.

24 Nov 2008

Riding straight into a head wind

Well this weeks show is being uploaded to the server as we speak, ready for tomorrow night 10pm til Midnight. Expect some Buraka Som Sistema, Deadbeat, Joker, Mike Slott, Sunship, Drop the Lime, The Bug, Flying Lotus and much more. All energised by a bike ride where my face was stung by hail as I rode straight into the wind, great fun, I was grinning through my grimace.
I might even get this weeks tracklist up. In the meantime I'm going to enjoy this weeks Between the Ears. Which is so far, so intriguing.

The State of Play

So what is the deal with Forward Motion? I'm often wondering that aloud to myself these days, I've always tried to keep the show upfront and fresh, and to try and make the show as far from repeatitive as possible, at the moment though I'm questioning the direction in which the show is heading.
The music policy has recently been lets just say chaotic, nothing wrong with that, chaos is a wonderful thing, and maybe chaotic is not the right word after all it carries negative connotations to many. What I think I'm trying to get at is that the music policy has been very loose, and I haven't been as discplined as I would like. One of the concerns I have had with the show, one that I had back in March when we found ourselves on Future Beat, was that the music I was listening to seemed to suit being mixed rather than just put into the put it on and play it format I favour, I'm no DJ and I can't mix, I've been advised to learn by some, but by those who know how bad my rhythm can be I haven't pursued, well not since I was 18 and a very patient friend tried educating me on her 1's and 2's.
Anyway I'm just trying to work out what I'm doing with the show, I feel that playing some of the music I'm loving now is doing it no favours, especially with the ease of access to great mixes and radio, if you haven't already check out Bok Bok on Sub Fm (Sats 17:00 - 19:00 fortnightly). Where as at the other end of the scale the likes of MAH have access to fresh dubplates, and make sure that each weeks show sounds fresh. So what to do with Forward Motion? I have some ideas, I'm just trying to work them out. Fear not those who do listen I won't be hanging up the headphones and mic. Also we do now have a Forward Motion group on Facebook, now thats advancement.

20 Oct 2008

A little diversion from beats to bikes.
This weeks Thinking Allowed on Radio 4 caught my ear today, mainly for the second half looking at the happiness in the job of cycle messengers. Though it feels like Radio 4 are becoming obsessed with the subject matter of messengers. This also made me think about what my own career, and well what I want to do with myself.
